How to Choose Outfits for Your Senior Session | Arrows Photography

Planning your senior session is exciting, and one of the most important aspects of it is choosing the right outfits. As a senior photographer in Vancouver, Washington, I’ve helped many high school seniors—like those from Ridgefield High School—feel confident in front of the camera by picking outfits that truly reflect their personality.

Here are my top tips for choosing outfits for your senior pictures:

1. Stay True to Your Style

Your senior pictures should represent who you are. Whether you love classic looks or something trendy, stay true to your personal style. Opt for clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. As a Ridgefield High School senior, these pictures are a reflection of this unique time in your life, so let your personality shine through!

2. Choose Colors That Compliment You

Neutral tones like white, cream, beige, and soft grays photograph beautifully, especially if you want a timeless look. For those who love a pop of color, jewel tones like emerald green, royal blue, or deep burgundy can really stand out in nature-filled backdrops like WSU Vancouver or downtown Vancouver.

3. Bring Multiple Outfits

Having two or three outfits can give your senior session more variety. Consider one casual look and one more dressed-up outfit to capture different aspects of your personality. If you're getting your senior session done at a scenic location like Vancouver Lake or Champoeg State Park, your outfit should match the setting.

4. Think About Layers and Textures

Layers, such as jackets or cardigans, add depth to your photos and give you more options for posing. For fall sessions, cozy textures like knits, flannels, or denim jackets are perfect for creating warm and inviting looks.

5. Avoid Distracting Patterns and Logos

While bold prints can be fun, too much can distract from your face. It’s best to avoid large logos or busy patterns, as they can take the focus away from you. Solid colors, simple patterns, or subtle textures will allow your personality to take center stage.

6. Plan for Accessories

Accessories like hats, scarves, or even meaningful jewelry can add a personal touch to your photos. They’re also great for adding variety without having to change your whole outfit. Just make sure not to overdo it—your outfits should enhance, not overshadow, your look.

7. Don’t Forget About Shoes!

Shoes complete the look, so think about what pairs best with your outfit and the location. Boots for a fall shoot at Daybreak Park or casual sneakers for an urban session in downtown Vancouver are great options.
