How to Have Fun During Your Family Session at Daybreak Park with Kids of All Ages

As a Vancouver, Washington family photographer, I’ve worked with families of all shapes and sizes, and one thing I’ve learned is that the key to a successful session is fun! At Daybreak Park, there’s plenty of room for everyone to move, explore, and enjoy the session—no matter how old your kids are.

Here’s how we keep things light, fun, and relaxed during family sessions, depending on the ages of your children:

Babies & Toddlers: Let Them Be Themselves

With little ones, the best moments often happen when they’re free to explore the world around them. During your session, we’ll let your toddler lead the way—whether that means picking up rocks, chasing after bubbles, or simply giggling in your arms. My approach is to keep things flexible and capture those sweet, spontaneous moments that reflect your child’s curiosity and joy.

If your baby or toddler needs a break, no worries! I make sure to go with the flow and keep things relaxed. As a Vancouver, Washington family photographer, I know how important it is to create a stress-free environment where parents and kids alike can feel comfortable and enjoy the session.

Preschoolers: Make It Playful

Preschoolers are full of energy, and I love to tap into that during family sessions! We’ll play games like "Simon Says," have races, or even do a silly dance-off. Daybreak Park is the perfect spot for this, with open spaces for them to run and explore. Capturing their laughter, big smiles, and adventurous spirit always leads to some of the most heartwarming photos.

At this age, it's all about making the session feel like playtime, not a formal photoshoot. As your Vancouver, Washington family photographer, I bring prompts and activities that will keep your preschoolers engaged and having fun.

School-Aged Kids: Keep Them Engaged

For school-aged kids, incorporating fun and age-appropriate activities into the session is key. Whether it's letting them show off their favorite poses, playing a game, or telling jokes to get those genuine smiles, I make sure they stay interested and excited about being part of the session.

Kids this age love being a little independent, so we often let them lead the way for some shots, exploring Daybreak Park's beautiful scenery. This also gives us a chance to capture those candid moments of your child in their element.

Teens: Encourage Their Style & Confidence

With teenagers, it’s all about letting them express their personality. Teenagers often enjoy showing off their personal style, so I make sure they feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Whether they’re into sports, music, or just want to capture their cool and relaxed vibe, I take the time to connect with them and make sure the session reflects who they are.

We might find fun spots in Daybreak Park that fit their style—whether it’s a cool walking path, near the water, or under the trees. I love when teens get involved in the process and share their ideas. As a Vancouver, Washington family photographer, I work hard to make sure everyone, no matter their age, enjoys the experience.

All Ages: Make Memories, Not Just Pictures

At the heart of every session, the goal is to have fun as a family. Whether your kids are young, older, or a mix of both, the most important thing is that everyone feels relaxed and enjoys the time spent together. During the session, we’ll laugh, play, and make memories that go far beyond just taking photos.

At Arrows Photography, I believe in creating experiences that feel natural and enjoyable. When your family is having a good time, the pictures will reflect those beautiful, real moments that you’ll treasure forever. So if you're looking for a Vancouver, Washington family photographer who works hard to make sessions fun and relaxed for all ages, I’m here to help!
